Perth summers arrive with hot easterlies that carry fine, dry sand straight through flyscreens and door seals. Unlike the heavier dust of cooler months, it settles as a light film that reappears within a day of cleaning — which is why so many households feel like they are losing the battle.
The trick is sequencing. Dust from the highest surface downwards, always dry before wet, and finish floors last. Vacuum with a HEPA-filtered machine rather than sweeping, because a broom simply relaunches the finest particles into the air where they resettle overnight.
Door seals and window tracks deserve a fortnightly pass of their own. They are the single biggest entry point for airborne grit, and ten minutes there saves an hour elsewhere. If you run air conditioning through summer, a filter clean every eight weeks makes a measurable difference to how quickly surfaces dull.
